This fourteen-page, full-colour booklet is available to the students and educators in the Valley Region (Carleton County and Victoria County) at no cost.  It is easy to read and should appeal to students ages 6 to 12.  Some adults have commented that they found the content informative. The booklet is jam-packed with information and activities pertaining to the 3R's, backyard composting, waste disposal and provincial programs.

Contents include such topics as:

  • The Three R's.
  • Map drawing - Draw a map to your community recycling drop-off.
  • From bottles to T-shirts.  Find out what happens to the drink bottle you return for deposit.
  • Composting - Learn to turn organic waste into soil amendment and reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill by one-third.
  • Follow that garbage - Have you even wondered where the garbage goes once it is put in the garbage truck?  Find out here!
  • Packing a waste-free and healthy lunch - Many ideas on how to include waste reduction when packing your lunch.
  • Glossory includes a list of new works to learn.
