The Valley Solid Waste Commission is pleased to announce that Toby Antworth has been selected as General Manager of the commission office.
Mrs. Antworth stepped in her new role at the beginning of October 2009. Mrs. Antworth will work directly with the board of directors, made up of representatives from this region’s municipalities, the Province and First Nations. She will assist the directors in fulfilling its mandate of: solid waste disposal services, material diversion programs and promoting the commission’s services.
Announcing the Winners of the
Earth Day 2009 - Beverage Container Recycling Challenge
The Valley Solid Waste Commission held a beverage container recycling challenge from March 9 to April 15, 2009. The challenge was open to all Elementary and Middle Schools within the Valley Solid Waste Commission's jurisdiction. The challenge was to collect the most beverage containers on a per capita basis.
Four schools participated by collecting beverage containers from March 9 to April 15. A total of 7,181 refundable bottles were collected and recycled.
And the winners are:

Donald Fraser Elementary School - Students collected 9.616 bottles per student.

Centreville Community School - Students collected 3.7 bottles per student.

The Adventures of Recycle Ben Join Recycle Ben and Friends on a Waste Loss Tour

This fourteen-page, full-colour booklet is available to the students and educators in the Valley Region (Carleton County and Victoria County) at no cost. It is easy to read and should appeal to students ages 6 to 12. Some adults have commented that they found the content informative. The booklet is jam-packed with information and activities pertaining to the 3R's, backyard composting, waste disposal and provincial programs.
